![]() ![]() Compared to the usual Spruce tops, a cedar-topped guitar like Seagull S6 takes less time to break in and get that full tone. It has a warm timbre with a rich shimmer and twang. What matters most is how the guitar sounds, and the Seagull S6 doesn’t disappoint in this department either. ![]() ![]() And if you want to fine-tune it, the double-action truss rod makes it easy. So it’s great for learning to play the guitar. It’s neither too hard to press, nor too low for a clean tone. Together with the head shape and tuner placement, this also helps the guitar stay in tune.Ĭompared to most affordable guitars, the Seagull S6 has a very balanced string action. ![]() The compensated saddle and nut improves playability and makes the sound more consistent by elevating certain strings. There’s plenty of space between the strings and, while the neck is wider than average, you’ll find it comfortable and easy to play unless you have small hands. The Seagull S6 stands out and plays more like an expensive intermediate guitar. Guitars in this price range tend to play alright, but not great. Once in a while, they offer a limited edition Seagull S6 with a different finish, like this red one. These versions, and the left-handed one, have no pickguard. However, you can also get it in burnt umber, or get the Mahogany Deluxe. Conversely, stronger construction, such as thicker tops and heavier bracing, stifles the sound. The Seagull S6 Original comes in a natural semi-gloss finish with a red pickguard. As a general rule better sound comes with more delicate construction. This provides stability while maintaining a traditional sound.Īs Robert Godin, owner of Godin guitars, put it: “Our motivation for this project was to create a new acoustic design that would simultaneously improve sound and structural integrity. As part of the new design, the top has a slight (7 meter radius) curve slightly above the soundhole which then levels out around the bridge of the guitar. This is opposed to the typical flat top of an acoustic guitar which has problems with the sound hole sinking in. This adds an arch to the top of the guitar to allow for a thinner and a more lightly braced top. Seagull Guitars have also released a "compound-curve" top design on all of their lines. Most models are available with either the Godin Quantum I electronics (featuring an under saddle transducer) or the Godin Quantum II electronics (with both a transducer and small microphone which can be blended together). Seagull guitars feature a headstock which places the tuning machines roughly in line with the nut to improve tuning stability. ![]()
